Four tips to maintain healthy skin during the harmattan season

The harmattan season brings with it dust, dryness and cold, which leads to sneezing and coughing. Learn more about how to protect yourself, and how to stay moisturized.

Most Nigerians have a love-hate relationship with the harmattan weather. For some of us, the season signifies a new beginning, and we love the cold nights. On the other hand, some of us despise the dryness and dust it brings.

Whether you hate or love it, the season will always come around. And, we have come up with the perfect guide to help you maintain healthy skin, especially now that the world still battles the COVID-19 pandemic.

  1. Bathe with lukewarm water: Don’t be tempted to use very hot water to take your bath because of the cold weather. Instead, use lukewarm water. Remember to add some Dettol antiseptic liquid to your bath water to help clean out the germs from the day or night. You can also use Dettol Skincare bar soap to keep your skin perfectly moisturised and protected through the day.
  2. Drink a lot of water: You’ll need to stay hydrated throughout the day because the atmosphere will be dryhot and sometimes coldWater can help to keep your skin moisturised and save you from dehydration. So, take a lot of it. Trust us, you will need the water.
  3. Moisturise regularly: Keep your body oiled and moisturised throughout the day. The harmattan weather can dry out the skin, but the use of a good moisturizer, like Dettol’s Antibacterial Skin Jelly, can give you soft skin all through the season. This skin jelly will also keep you safe from 99.9% of germs - which is particularly important during these times.
  4. Remember your hands and lips: Your hands and lips are the most susceptible to the effects of harmattan’s dryness. It is imperative to pay attention to your hands especially as dirty hands are a major transmitter of germsThis means that you will need to either wash them as often as possible with Dettol bar or disinfect with Dettol instant sanitizer. All this cleaning and sanitizing can cause your hands to get dry faster, especially during the Harmattan season. You should use Dettol skin jelly to moisturise after you wash or sanitise your hands.

All of these tips and products should help you maintain a healthy skin throughout the harmattan season.
